Ultra Marathon Runners Rejoice
While training for my first Ultra Marathon (The Lakeland Ultra), I found that my GoreTex trail shoes, while fit for purpose made my feet feel extremely hot when running.
By a chance web search I stumbled upon buyXSocks.com web site and the Speed Metal Running socks which made the bold claim that the socks not only helped 'cool' your feet, but also reduced/elminated the chance of blisters.
Gulping a little at the expense for a pair of socks I decided to take the plunge and made the purchase. The socks were delivered within 2 days of purchase and I immediately tried them on and went for a 10 mile run.....the results fantastic....remarkably they really did feel cool on my feet.
The real test came a week or so later on the 50 mile UltraMarathon itself, and the socks came through with flying colours, despite the fact my feet got drenched running through streams and bogs on a very wet Lake District day.
Bottom line, I cannot recommend these socks enough. Historically I'always purchased Nike's Elite Running socks which are a good anatomical fit, but, frankly they aren't comparable to the Speed Metal's.
So, if you're in doubt and questioning the expense on a pair of socks, go ahead, take the plunge....most of us runners don't think twice about paying a lot for comfort and quality in our running shoes, consider this is a similar if not more valued purchase.
